On Saturday November 4, 2017, the UFC world will have all eyes on the main card which takes place in New York. UFC 217 has a very intriguing main card that will attract fans from all over. Madison Square Garden has held many events over its long existence, from Ali vs. Frazier, to concerts performed by John Lennon and Elton John. MSG has seen its fair share of memorable events. On this night, the main card is set and some big names in the MMA world are on it with three title fights.
The first fight on the main card is a middleweight bout between Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks and Paulo Borrachinha. Hendricks has a record of 18-7-0. Borrachinha has a record of 10-0. Kendricks is 34 years old, and has a slight disadvantage in height and reach, his height and reach are 69 inches. Borrachinha is 26 years old and has a height and reach of 72 inches. The advantage goes to Borrachinha because he is hot right now at 10-0. Hendricks has only won one of his last four fights. All in all, it should be a very good fight. If Kendricks can use is grappling and take downs to his advantage, then Borrachinha may not be able to knock him out. If Kendrick tries to stand toe to toe, then he may not last. I have Borrachinha winning by knockout.
The second fight on the main card is going to be an awesome fight and has a lot of people excited. The next fight is a welterweight bout between Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal. Thompson comes in at age 34 with a record of 13-1-1, with a height of 72 inches and a reach of 75 inches. Thompson has the height and reach advantage but only by an inch for each. Masvidal comes in at age 32 with a record of 32-12-0. He has a height of 71 inches and a reach of 74 inches. I think this could be one of the fights of the night. If Thompson can knock him out early, then he should try. Thompson can take a lot of hits, as shown in his last two fights with Tyron Woodley. Masvidal has knock out capabilities and both fighters have a decent ground game. I think it will be a slugfest and Thompson will win by unanimous decision.
The third and first of three title fights is a women’s strawweight bout between the Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and the number one contender, Rose “Thug” Namajunas. Both women are very good fighters, and this will be an exciting fight to watch. Jedrzejczyk is 30 years old and has a record of 14-0-0. Her height is 66 inches and her reach is 65 inches. Namajunas is 25 years old with a height and reach of 65 inches. Jedrzejczyk has been dominant in her career so far. All of her title fights have been either by knockout or unanimous decision. She is a very strong pound for pound fighter in the women’s strawweight division. Namajunas has 4 wins in the UFC. Three of her four wins have come by submission and one by unanimous decision. If Namajunas wants to win this fight she will have to win by submission. I do not see that happening because Jedrzejczyk has a good defense against takedowns. I have Jedrzejczyk winning by unanimous decision.
The fourth fight and second title fight is a bantamweight title fight between the Champion Cody “No Love” Garbrandt and the number two contender T.J. Dillashaw. Garbrandt is 26 years old with a record of 11-0-0. Garbrandt’s height is 68 inches and his reach is 65 inches. Dillashaw is 31 years old and has a record of 15-3-0. He has a height of 66 inches and a reach of 67 inches. This will be another good fight, Dillashaw has the reach advantage of two inches. This fight has me torn. Garbrandt can land a lot of strikes and Dillashaw can sure take punches. I see this title fight going the whole way and Dillashaw upstes Garbrandt by split decision.
For the fifth and main event of the night, the champion Michael “The Count” Bisping takes on Georges “Rush” St-Pierre in a middleweight title fight. Bisping is 38 years old with a record of 31-7-0. He has a height of 73 inches and a reach of 75 inches. GSP is 36 years old with a record of 25-2. His height is 71 inches and his reach is 76 inches. The main event is sure to be a good one. Bisping is defending his title against GSP who has not fought since 2013. Bisping is a heavy hitter and will be looking to knockout GSP. GSP is more controlled and picks his shots. I believe Bisping will win by Unanimous decision.
With three title fights, UFC 217 is sure to be a thriller. Many will be watching to see how this main card will turn out, I know I will be.
